When you’re getting ready to move in Chicago, you’ll probably have a hundred different things on your mind. Save yourself some stress by preparing before you begin packing. Below, we’re sharing a quick list of the moving supplies we offer in Chicago that will help make packing and moving a breeze.

Moving Supplies

Our list of Moving Supplies:

Moving Boxes

Moving Boxes

This one might be a given, but moving boxes can’t be left off of the list. Be sure that the moving boxes you choose are strong enough to hold up during packing, loading, and unloading. Sometimes, flimsy cardboard boxes just won’t cut it. Instead, choose plastic moving boxes with secure lids. Plastic moving boxes are much more sturdy and will also help to protect your belongings from the elements. Moving boxes with handles will also make it easier to lift and transport the boxes on moving day.

Zip Ties

If you’re concerned about losing items during the move, grab a pack of zip ties. They can secure your plastic moving boxes and bags more effectively than using tape. Closing boxes and bags with zip ties means that your items won’t spill and scatter during the move. It also reduces the risk of anyone opening up your boxes and bags before you’re ready to unpack.

Wardrobe Boxes

You can absolutely choose to move your entire wardrobe by folding each piece of clothing and stacking them in our plastic boxes. The other option is to use wardrobe boxes which will be quicker and easier. Wardrobe boxes include a bar that is made for hanging clothes. That means that there’s no removing or folding required when packing, and that unpacking at your new place will take no time at all.

Packing Paper

Most of have will have a few breakable items to pack and you’ll want to have moving supplies to keep those items safe on moving day. Packing paper is ideal for wrapping fragile items before putting them into boxes. Don’t take chances when it comes to getting things like dishes, vases, and picture frames to your new home in one piece. Be sure to have plenty of packing paper on hand. Use packing paper for extra padding around the breakable items to give yourself some piece of mind while boxes are being transported.

Mattress Covers / Mattress Bag

There’s nothing worse than getting to your new apartment or house and finding that your mattress has been damaged. It’s easy to get stains, rips, and tears on mattresses between your old place, the moving truck, and your new home. Mattress covers can help minimize that risk. Some people choose to use blankets or sheets to cover their mattress when moving while others prefer to use covers made specifically for each different size of mattress. A mattress cover will also prevent dirt and water from ruining your mattress before you get moved in.  No one wants a dirty mattress during their first night in their new home.

Hand Trucks and Dollies

Once all of your items are packed and ready to move, how will you get them where they need to go? The answer is hand trucks and dollies which we refer to them as Redi-Wheels. These lightweight and sturdy dollies provide an excellent moving system and are the all-stars on the list of moving supplies. Using hand trucks and dollies makes it easier to stack several moving boxes at a time, which is faster and more efficient.  Dollies are great when there are no steps or stairs involved.  Anyone can push the plastic boxes around with ease on the dollies.  The hand trucks are preferred when you have a few steps to go over.

When you begin to pack, you will want to have all of the right moving supplies on hand. Being prepared will make the moving process less overwhelming and you’ll be in your new place in Chicago in no time.
